Lori Okimura (USA)

Throughout her three decades long professional career in sports, Lori Okimura has gained expertise in multiple areas of the industry from production and manufacturing to marketing and sales and most recently in non-profit governance and executive management.  Okimura has structured the next phase of her career around athlete advocacy and activism, grassroots program development, safe sport, and human rights.  She has been an active volunteer, past sponsor, club director, coach, facility manager and event organizer with extensive experience in sales, marketing and promotions of various major international sports organizations and events, primarily in Olympic and Paralympic sports.  Her work with sports facility projects, included the management and operations of private sport club organizations in the United States starting in the 1980’s through the mid 2000’s.  She is known for championing a rigorous safeguarding agenda when affiliating with organizations and corporations.  She has completed coursework and certification for various organizations, including the U.S. Center for SafeSport (including safeguarding environments for athletes with disabilities), the FIFA Guardians program, Darkness to Light Stewards of Children training, WADA anti-doping education program, Positive Coaching Alliance, and Athletes for Impact certification in civic engagement and social justice.

She was appointed in 2019 as an Executive Board Member to the Board of Directors of Angel City Sports, an organization based in Los Angeles, California focused on providing opportunities through sport to adults, children and veterans with physical differences and impairments.   She serves in the leadership of World ParaVolley, the international federation of sitting and beach paravolley.  She served as a member of the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) beach commission from 2016-2021, and as a technical delegate for the FIVB World Tour since 2004.  Okimura was appointed by World ParaVolley as an international technical official for sitting volleyball for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games and is certified as a technical delegate for sitting and beach paravolley events.
