President Barry Couzner and International Technical Official Weiping Tu have recently negotiated the host for the 2016 Intercontinental and World ParaVolley has great pleasure in announcing that the event will be held in Tangqi Town, Hangzhou City, China in the period 17th to 23rd March 2016.
This will be the final opportunity for one male and one female team to qualify for the Rio Paralympic Games Sitting Volleyball competition. It is also seen as a great opportunity for the already qualified teams to gain some last minute match experience leading up to the Games.
President Barry Couzner (2nd from right) is seen here after the contract signing with Mr Woo (left), Mr Cailaing Lu (2nd from left) and Mr Weiping Tu (right). Mr Lu and Mr Woo represent the China Goalball Training Centre that is governed by the China Disabled Person’s Federation and is an approved Asian Paralympic Committee Sports Centre of Excellence.
The last Intercontinental, held in Egypt, had 19 teams participating and it is expected that this number will be exceeded next year. This will be the first time that the Centre has been used for any international sport other than Goalball. The Organisers plan to hold an exceptional event that will promote Sitting Volleyball and the role of sport for people with a physical impairment to the local, national and international communities!
