Unbeaten United States clinch 2019 World Super 6 title

Tokyo, Japan, November 17, 2019 – Reigning Paralympic champions the United States continue their golden run, keeping their unbeaten streak and clinching the 2019 World Super 6 title at the Taito Riverside Sports Centre on Sunday.

After their outstanding performance of six wins in the preliminary round without dropping a single set in the tournament, they came up with yet another consistent performance to beat European champions Russia 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-22) to clinch the gold medal.

USA captain Kathryn Holloway led her squad with 11 markers, including seven attacks, two blocks and two aces. Monique Burkland and Kaleo Kanalehe added nine and seven points, respectively.

The USA squad led on all fronts with 11 aces, 25 attacks and six blocks, and limited their errors to 26, while their opponents Russia struggled to get their game going as they were limited to score in single digits in the match.

In the bronze medal match, Japan repeated their dominance over Ukraine with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-10) victory, after their four-set win against the European team on Saturday.

Japanese captain Michiyo Nishiie registered 10 points in the bronze medal win, while her Ukrainian adversary Oleksandra Podliesna topped all scorers with 13 points.
