Summary – Day 3 Preliminary Rounds

Today saw all 10 teams in the TO2015 Parapan Am Sitting Volleyball competition in action.

In the first match of the day, Brazil took on Costa Rica and had little trouble disposing of them in a match that lasted only 50 minutes. The size and experience of the number 3 ranked Brazilians was evident as the won by scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-5 against a spirited Costa Rican team.

The second match of the day featured the men’s teams from Colombia and Mexico in a 3 set victory for the Colombians who dominated their Mexican opponents to take the match by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-14.

Women’s action continued in the third match of the day which saw the very powerful USA women take on the team from Cuba who are competing in their first major international competition. The 3rd ranked USA women had little trouble handling the Cubans, in a match that lasted only 47 minutes, by scores of 25-8, 25-5 and 25-10.

In other women’s action today, Brazil handed Canada a 3 set loss with scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-7. The match was played before an almost sold out crowd who were there to support the home town Canadians but the Brazilian team was simply too experienced and powerful for the Canadians to handle.

The final match of the evening was the most exciting of the competition so far as the USA men took on their northern rivals from Canada. In a closely contested match, the USA squad bested the Canadians by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-18. A full house cheered for both teams in a match that featured some great rallies and changes in the lead in all 3 sets.
